Reclaim Solana rent — close empty accounts
Old airdrops and dust tokens often leave empty SPL token accounts on your wallet. Each one locks about 0.002 SOL as rent. Close the empty accounts and that SOL returns to your spendable balance — enough for many 0.001 SOL micropayments. Try a free demo roll below, then pay once your balance looks right.
What rent reclaim means
Solana stores token balances in separate token accounts. Creating one reserves lamports so the account stays rent-exempt. When the token balance hits zero, the account is empty but the rent stays locked until you close it.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Rent-exempt minimum | Lamports required to keep an account alive on-chain (~0.002 SOL per typical SPL token account) |
| Empty token account | Balance is 0 — safe to close if you do not expect more tokens on that mint |
| Close account | On-chain instruction that deletes the account and sends locked lamports back to your wallet |
| Network fee | Small fee per close transaction (~0.000005 SOL) — see fees guide |
Pick your wallet
Each wallet surfaces empty accounts differently. Jump to your app below.
| Wallet | Where to find empty accounts | Section |
|---|---|---|
| Phantom | Hidden / low-balance tokens, burn & close flows | Phantom steps |
| Solflare | Token manager, burn empty accounts | Solflare steps |
| Backpack | Token list, remove / close zero-balance mints | Backpack steps |
Reclaim rent in Phantom
- Open Phantom and confirm Mainnet Beta (not Devnet).
- Scroll your token list — tap Manage token list or look for hidden / zero-balance tokens.
- For tokens you no longer need with 0 balance, choose Burn or Remove when Phantom offers to close the account.
- Approve each close transaction. Locked rent returns to your SOL balance after confirmation.
- Repeat for other empty accounts. Batch several closes when your SOL balance covers fees.

Reclaim rent in Solflare
- Open Solflare on mainnet.
- Go to your Tokens tab and review dust or zero-balance entries.
- Use Solflare’s token management / burn tools for accounts with 0 balance (wording varies by app version).
- Approve the close transaction. Recovered lamports appear in your SOL balance.
- Check the balance with the wallet balance checker if the UI lags.

Reclaim rent in Backpack
- Open Backpack and confirm you are on mainnet.
- Open your Tokens list and find zero-balance or unwanted dust tokens.
- Remove or close empty token accounts when Backpack prompts (balance must be 0).
- Approve the transaction. Rent lamports return to spendable SOL.
- Leave a small SOL buffer for future transaction fees.
Need more SOL? See get SOL in Backpack or fix insufficient SOL.
After you reclaim rent
- Check balance — use the wallet balance checker if your wallet UI has not refreshed.
- Demo first — roll free in the panel above (no SOL required).
- Pay on mainnet — connect wallet or scan Solana Pay QR for a 0.001 SOL Garden Dice roll.
Stuck at payment?
Reclaimed rent but the roll still will not go through? Your wallet may count rent-locked SOL in other empty accounts, or you may be on the wrong network.

FAQ
- Will closing accounts delete my NFTs?
- Only close accounts with zero balance. NFTs live in token accounts too — if an account still holds an NFT, do not close it.
- Can reclaimed rent pay for Garden Dice?
- Yes. Each empty account returns roughly 0.002 SOL — enough for a 0.001 SOL roll plus network fees. Reclaiming a few accounts often covers several rolls.
- Why do I still see insufficient SOL after reclaiming?
- Close transactions themselves cost fees, and your wallet keeps a rent-exempt minimum on your main SOL account. If balance is still tight, see the insufficient SOL hub.
- Do I need extra SOL for network fees?
- Yes — keep a little extra beyond the roll. The base fee is about 0.000005 SOL per transfer, so a 0.001 SOL roll costs roughly 0.001005 SOL total. See Solana transaction fees.
- I reclaimed rent but payment still says insufficient — why?
- Other empty token accounts may still lock SOL, or your spendable balance may be below roll + fee. Run wallet cleanup or check balance with the wallet balance checker.
